Priorat is a fascinating Spanish wine region with THE best origin story. If you open an 80's wine Atlas, it will barely feature. By the 2000's it was one of only 2 regions that enjoyed the top DOC classification, the other being La Rioja. (STSWine Priorat Wine School notes gives you everything you need). Key to the regions uniqueness is the licorella schist soil, it imparts a completely unique character to the wine, and also requires the vines to deep dive for water, resulting in very concentrated wines. The best examples (like these 6) match this lush texture with very fresh acidity.

We have 2 from Buil & Gine, GINÉ GINÉ is the entry point and a magnificent into to licorella wine (it even mentions it on the label under the name, matured in stainless steel. JOAN GINÉ is their top wine, matured 2 years in French and American oak and held back 4 further years before release - old school, robust and powerful. Portal del Priorat Gotes is also on the fresh and pure side, it's polished and classy. Alvaro Palacios Camins Del Priorat is one of the best value wines on the planet by Spain's greatest winemaker. Freddi Torres Classic Priorat does exactly what it says on the tin - it's deep, complex and mineral. Terroir al Limit Historic Negre is an ambitious wine from the it producer of Priorat - conveying the whole region through a 9 Village blend. STSWine
