Beaujolais' Best: Daniel Bouland

Daniel Bouland is one of the best winemakers in Morgon. Perhaps his profile is not as high as the likes of Lapierre or Foillard, but I think his wines are on the same quality level. NEAL MARTIN

It's clear by now that Daniel Bouland is one of Beaujolais's major as well as most consistent talents. WINE ADVOCATE

Daniel Bouland probably just edges it for my best producer in Beaujolais. When I began selling them years ago I was always struck by the amount of wine makers that would buy his wines on release. It's easy to see why. Bouland matches searing acidity with a savoury, a graphite-like character on the palate, a bright juicy core of fruit and loads of detail in the structure. Like all good Braujolais, and most importantly, they are deadly fun to drink.

2 of each: the 2018 Corcelette is made from 70 year old Gamay vines with seruious depth & detail. Schist Bellevue 2020 is younger vines of schist soil, it is buzzy, racy and energetic and Cuvee Melanie 2020 is his flagship, off a small and famous lieu dit, volcanic blue schist - a stunning rendering.

These are handmade wines, wines of gorgeous detail and soul but incredible drinkability. These will be on my dinner table on Chrstmas Day. STSWine
